Programming test 2
On Monday, we did our second programming test.
On Tuesday, we got our test back and went over the model answers. We also learned more about parameters and animation with Turing. For homework, we have to create a program that we talked about in class.

Friday :)
Today we had our last work period to study for the test. My group and I worked on making programs with functions and procedures in them. We took turns giving each other programs to make and helped. For homework, I'm going to study for the test and be a 4!

early dismissal
Today we spent the really short period taking up the Substring assignments. We're up to #11. Also, we learned about for statements, and new keywords like: decreasing, include, procedure. For homework, I modified assignment 19 and studied a little for the upcoming test.

Tuesday + Wednesday
On Tuesday, Mr. Arkin couldn't come, so we had a supply teacher again. I spent the period making good progress on the substring assignments and I'm now on # 5. I had some difficulties completing 5 though, so I worked with a partner to figure out the problem. For homework, I continued to work on the assignments.
On Wednesday, we had a supply teacher again. I worked on assignments 5 and 6 but couldn't finish because of the spirit assembly that took up half of the period. For homework, I'm going to do up to assignment 8 (hopefully).
Bye.

Supply teacher~
Today, we had a supply teacher and spent the period learning and working on substring assignments. I've completed the first two assignments and started the third one. UNFORTUNELY, my program got ERASED twice because of some random bug on the computer. *Sigh*. For homework, I'm going to work and finish # 3-4.

Repetition Wrap-up
On Friday, we had a silent studio 218 and worked on the repetition assignments. Since I finished already, I spent the period checking over my work, and helped others with theirs. I also took some notes and prepared for the upcoming test. For homework, I looked over my notes for my motes.

P.D. Day Tomorrow~
Today in class, we worked on our assignments for most of the period. We also learned some cool features about Turing that we didn't know before, like automatic desk checking and code completion. For homework, we have to do a printer comparison assignment with HTML and CSS and catch up on other repetition assignments that we didn't finish yet. Yay! Long weekend!

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Sorry I haven't been posting blogs for a while... I was so caught up in studying for a major geo test and finishing a project that I couldn't squeeze in the time!
Anyways, on Monday, our Term 1 average was posted at the door, and mine was pretty good. In class, we made music! It's a built-in Turing procedure and can play notes with difference speeds. I thought it was very cool and I tried to make some music at home, but it didn't turn out well... We spent the rest of the period going over some repetition programs. For homework, I did assignments 3-5.
Now Tuesday! It was a nice period, we had a short period because of the late start, and we spent a few minutes in the beginning of the period doing a survey on what we liked, disliked, etc. about the class. The rest of the period was given to us to work on the assignments. Laura and I worked together, and we got up to assignment 10!
Wednesday... which is today~
In class, we partnered up to desk check and analyze the codes for repetition assignment 6, and then printed out the new updated version of it. We used the rest of the time to continue working on the assignments, and I completed up to #12! For homework, we had to modify #7 to make the user input info, and finish up to #8.
Bye for now! I'm going to go eat some chicken wings! *yum*

Repetition
Today, we started our first day into the third program control type, which is repetition. We learned about loop statements and how exit statements are crucial to making the execution of the program successful. We also had some demonstration programs to further aid us in our study. For homework, we were to modify a program we did in class and change it so that it can take in a starting value from the user instead of starting at 1. Plus, I have to complete repetition assignments 1 and 2 in the programming section, and modify #2 to have a user put in the starting and counting limit.
Yay! Weekend!

Lest we forget...
Today is rememberance day, and we had an assembly in the morning plus 2 minutes of silences @ 11:00a.m.
In ICS, we took up the arithmetic mean program where we had to use counters and accumulators to write the program. I learned that you "increment counters", and "accumulate accumulators".
We spent the rest of the period working with a partner to get model results for the test, and at the end of the period our tests were given back to us. For homework, I got my test signed.

Day before the test
Today, we reviewed for the test and Mr. Arkin answered all the questions we had about the test to help us prepare. We also learned about counters and accumulators and were given a simple assignment to take in three marks and find the means of the data. For homework, I studied for the test, but there weren't much to study for since I've been reviewing my notes regularly. Hope I do well tomorrow :)

Studio 218~
Today, someone brought in an Owl City album, and I had songs stuck in my head all day! We worked on the code analysis during the period, and our group finished it before the period ended. We also took a note on how to write out a date properly and Canadian. For homework, it was just the daily blog, which I'm writing right now....
Anyways, have a nice weekend everyone!

Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday
Ok, on Tuesday, we learned about case statements and how they are used. It was pretty easy since I read through that section for homework last night and took notes. Our homework was to finish the ATM program by adding the loop body to it.
Now onto Wednesday...... first, I slept, then slept, then slept.... If you're wondering why.... it's because it was Take Your Kids to Work Day!!! And I had absolutely NO WHERE to go :) Since I decided to stay home, I was able to catch up on all my homework and eat and sleep, etc.
Lastly! Today, we did an activity on desk checking with a group. We helped each other and discussed the code and blah blah blah. Also, we were supposed to write all the features of the code on a BIG piece of paper! Unfortunately, we were too caught up in making a rough copy (it has LOTS of info by the way) that we ran out of time when we were supposed to make the good copy on the BIG paper :(
My homework was to desk check 3 of my selection assignments!

The end of selection..... Or is it??
Today, we finished all our selection assignments, and discussed questions in class. We were given 30 min to talk amongst ourselves and find the best program out of all our programs. With the rest of the period, we worked at the computers on anything that we didn't or need to complete. The homework was to preview the Selection (II), complete anything that hasn't been done already, and blog.

Clean up day
Today, our job was to clean up our entire website to make sure they're all validated, and update our glossaries. We had a supply teacher today. Someone in our class finally brought in some music so we were able to enjoy Studio 218 while working :)
Our homework was to complete the selection assignments.

Truth is hard to find~~
Today, we took up selection assignments 1-5, and learned about truth tables, binary/unary operators, elsif for more than one truth part and if ladders. We had a few minutes at the end of class to work on our assignments. For homework, we were supposed to do selection assignments 5-7, but since I already finished, I checked them over, printed, and did some other assignments as well.

SELECTION
TODAY~ (as you can probably tell by my heading) we learned about selection! It was just an introduction it, but we already started on our assignments. Since it was a short period, we didn't have much time to do anything else.

*robotic voice* Think like a computer... Think like a computer..
HAI! We discussed about tracing the execution of a program, and to think like a computer. We also talked about the unary, binary and boolean operators. For homework, I previewed the Selection section of programming, took notes for it, and did two programs which relates to the binary and boolean operations. It was a pretty fun day.
At lunch, there was a food sale for animal relief club, and people bought all the sushi and springrolls that I made! HEHEHE

Simple is best
Today, we took up input assignments 1-4, and discussed about ways to make the programs easier for users to use. We learned to ALWAYS specify a field width for numbers, and that the user can also specify the field width. For homework, I continued to work on the input assignments and printed out the assignment page.

Superpower autobiography
We got back our marks for the superpower autobiography. We basically spent the whole period looking at our marks, and comparing them with other people's :) Mr. Arkin also took up some of the comments that were put for each person's comment section, so see where we lost marks.
Tuesday, October 19, 2010
Success~
The only thing we did today was work on the input assignments. For homework, I completed the assignments 1-5, but had some difficulties with #4. I asked some classmates about it and was successful at getting it done. YAY! I also printed out the HTML/CSS source codes, the glossarys, and programming assignments.

OMGGGEEE THERE'S A BEEE!!
In class, we learned about variables, because constants are so boring. We learned how to input information, and output them as well. After that, we spent the rest of the period working on the homework assignments on touque.ca. For homework, I completed the input assignment 1-3. I looked over 4 and 5 but it was a little confusing so I didn't do them. An interesting thing happened in class today though; A BEE FLEW IN!!! It was buzzing everywhere and got everyone paranoid, including me. The good thing was that I wasn't wearing any yellow, and the bee (or wasp, I'm not sure) was only flying around 2 guys who just happened to be wearing yellow :)

finally friday
Today, we took some more definitions and talked solved the case of the DISAPPEARING ASTERISK! It was actually easier than I thought. For the rest of the class, we took notes on new things we're learning, and discussed about them. For homework, I read and took notes for programming, and explored Turing.

trip
I was @ Niagara falls today for my geography field trip, so I missed a whole class of computer science. From reading the daily log, I knew that our class did an activity with the disappearing *, and the mission was to solve how to make it appear on all 4 corners of the page. For homework, I reviewed and took notes for "variables" and "input" sections in the programming section on Touque.ca.

programmingprogrammingprogrammingprogrammingprogrammingprogrammingprogrammingprogrammingprogrammingprogramming
We spent the whole class learning about programming. And as an introduction, we did some basic programming on Turing. For example, we learned about character strings, objects, exacutables, integers, and others. It was actually very interesting to learrn about everything, though I find that it takes a while to get it. But I guess it's just because it's all new to us, so it'll get better later on. For homework I took notes from the programming subsite on touque.ca, and completed the output assignments.

beginning of Programing
Today, we started to learn about processing. We drew flowcharts on how processing is made, and what steps are required to take. We went on the computer and started the IDE program "Turing", which is a programing language and program that's named after the British Mathmetician, Alan Turing. It's a program especially made for students when they're learning how to program. We were taught what "key words", "arithmetic expression", and "character string" were in Turing, and played around with the program for a bit with our teacher. For homework, I reviewed the programing sub.

(the title says "binary code")
Today, our class learned how to change binary codes into decimal numbers and how to pronounce it as an ASCII term. For example, 0100 0001 is represented as 65, and it's pronounced as "ASCII-65". We had to remember that "A" is 65, which is represented as 0100 0001, "a" is 97 which is represented as 0110 0001, and "blank space" is 32 which is 0010 0000. From learning these things, We covered 53 of the ASCII codes. In class we also filled out a worksheet on all the ASCII codes and had to get the code for decimal numbers. For homework I decoded the blog Mr. Arkin wrote, and completed my worksheet. I think ASCII codes are AWESOME, but it's very difficult to keep track of where you are while decoding a message.

Math in Computer Science?!
We finally finished our words definitions today, and learned about the binary codes. The new and interesting thing I learned today is how to count, and not just the regular way (base 10), we learned base 2!! It may not sound like much, but it's actually very cool. Did you know, if you do addition with base 2, 1+1=10? And the only 2 numbers that can be used in it are 0 and 1. For homework, I updated/validated and put the basic computer glossary on the web. I've had some troubles validating the class glossary though because one of the errors said that I needed to add a <dl> when I already had one. I also found pictures for the newly defined words we got in class, but I still couldn't find the right pictures for megabyte, gigabyte, kilobyte, bit and byte.
Monday, October 4, 2010
We tried our best to wrap things up with the Basic Computer Glossary today, unfortunately we still had a few words left. There's always next time! We got the definitions and copied them down in our notes so we can update the web page online. We also learned about the values and differences between bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes. For homework, I've updated my glossary and validated it. I've also gotten images for the terms, however, I couldn't find any images of kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, etc. I'll try again on another website and hopefully I'll be able to get those pictures.
Friday, October 1, 2010
Today we continued to work on the Basic Computer Glossary. We're put in 4 more definitions and discussed about them. That took up pretty much the whole period but we had 15 min left over in the end. We used that time to work on the glossary. At home, I put in the definitions for the BCG and finished the personal glossary. I also want to review the definitions for my own benefit.
Thursday, September 30, 2010
Basic Computer Glossary is what we've been working on all period. We were given a list of words that are related to what we're learning right now, and we worked in groups to brainstorm definitions of those words. After, we were given the real definitions and have to make them into another web page. For homework, I worked on both the Basic Computer Glossary and my personal glossary. I finished the basic one and validated it, and I'm almost done the personal one. They're both live on the web on Touque.ca.
Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Time to wrap things up! We had to finish off our glossary today and get as much done as possible. I spent the period finding more definitions from various sources, and adding a CSS to it as well. We also found a website called "SourceForge" and there's a lot of open-source softwares. I downloaded the Notepad++ and it works very well. For homework I'm going to try and finish the glossary and upload it through FTP.
Tuesday, September 28, 2010
Today in class we continued to work on the class glossary. I went on several sites and found the definitions for about 1/4 of the words. I also recorded the references of where I got them so I can make a proper bibliography. For homework today I am going to continue finding definitions of words and make a CSS that would go with the web page.
Monday, September 27, 2010
Sorry I didn't post Friday's lesson, but I'm going to make up for that. On Friday, we basically finished and peer marked our work, and everyone handed it in before 10:00pm. There were some people who had problems, but overall it was a success. Today, we talked about the different types of HTML lists: ordered, unordered and definitions. We also learned how to put the definitions the right way (first definition term, then definition definitions). Towards the end of class, Mr. Arkin told us about the Dropbox and showed a video of what it's used for. For homework, I installed the Dropbox, and made a skeleton of my glossary page with a link from my index.html.
Thursday, September 23, 2010
Our goal today was to complete our autobiography assignment because it's due tomorrow at 10:00pm. I'm done the assignment so I spent the period going over it and made sure everything in the marking scheme was in my website. For homework I continued with that and I'm hoping to get a good mark! I've asked Monika to mark my work tonight and post it on my web.

Wednesday!
This is our class plan today:
1. Linking
2. Marking
3. Working
4. Reading
5. hw: Finishing
I've done #1,3,4 & 5 so far. and I'm ready to have someone mark my assignment. For homework, I finished my website and polished it up. In Filezilla, I created sub-directories and linked all the webs and images together. I also validated them just to make sure they're all good. Tomorrow, I'm going to ask a friend to mark my page and then it'll be ready to go!

We continued on our superpower autobiography today and is expecting to wrap it up by either Wednesday or Thursday. I've finished most of the main steps and now I'm just adding things to my website. It's already live on the web and all of the pages are validated. For homework today I am going to keep working on making my website better and more appealing to viewers. I think it's a really fun assignment and I've learned a lot from it.
Friday, September 17, 2010
We continued our website assignment today, and paired up to have our partner check our work and make suggestions. I'm basically finished the website so now I'm looking for ways to make it look better. For homework I polished my website and made the images blend in to the background. I also looked at a few of other people's web to see if there's anything I can learn from them.
Thursday, September 16, 2010
In class today we learned about the modifiers keys to make life easier since you don't have to switch back and forth from your keyboard to your mouse. The rest of the period was used to continue to work on our superpower autobiography. I finally got my superpower website validated today, because before it always said "this file could not be opened". For homework, I went on touque.ca to check if my index.html was live on the web or not. At first there was something wrong, but I went on Filezilla and refreshed everything, and now my website is LIVE ON THE WEB. I also put in pictures for my superpowers website and validated it so there's no errors!
Wednesday, September 15, 2010
Wednesday! It's the middle of the week :/
We worked on making our HTML files validate today. I had a few errors from the validator but I was able to solve them and it passed the validation. At home, I worked on my index.html further to make it look better, and validated it again. After checking them, I printed the css and html documents to bring them to class the next day.

Sept 14/10 6th class
I worked on my website page in class today. Since I finished my autobiography yesterday, I was able to put that on my website. However, a problem occurred while I was validating my page. After everything was put together, I tried to validate my page, but it said that the page could not be validated. I took out some parts of the website, and it still didn't work. But then I found out that it was the autobiography that caused it not to work. I have NO idea why that is, so I'm trying it at home again to fix the problem.

Sept 13/10 5th Class
In class today we worked on making the websites live. I downloaded FileZilla and logged in. I had to log out though because only 5 people can log on using 1 host. For the rest of the period, I was making my index.html, which is going to be my home page for my autobiography. In the page I put my Wikispaces ID and the link to my blog. I wasn't able to put the website live in class because the system would not log me on, so I did it at home for homework. Also for homework, I completed my superpower autobiography, and made a webpage out of it. It's not done yet but I'm going to put it on a USB and bring it to class tomorrow to continue it.

Sept 10/10 The 4th day
I've had a VERY productive day in class today. In the beginning I reviewed the things I did yesterday and tried out different things for my page. Then I started looking for ways to put the colours in the background and text. I got help from a few classmates for the background colours. While I was reading the website design information, I found something really cool and that was to change the background colour with a click/button. I followed the instructions on the website but it didn't work for me, so I googled it and found out how to do it. I also learned how to add an image to the page, so now my website has a lot of bananas on it. Then I used the HTML and CSS validator to check my work. The CSS was very successful, but I had some errors and warnings on the HTML validator. The descriptions weren't that easy to understand, but I managed to fix a few errors. I still have 1 error and 7 warnings left though. For homework today I am going to try and fix the errors and warnings, and contine my autobiography.

Sept 9/10 3rd day of CS
In today's class, our guest teacher was able to help all the students log in successfully into our computers. We had the whole period to work on our Super-power Autobiography assignment and it went pretty well. I spent a long time trying to make websites and it took me a while to add the colours as background. It was really fun and cool to see that the things we wrote could be posted on the web. For homework, I kept on working on the assignment and started my autobiography for my SUPERPOWER.

Sept 8/10 2nd day of computer science
In class today we learned about the differences and uses of webpage content and format. We put lots of words in the glossary and took notes about CSS, HTML, and FTP. After I got home, I played around with making websites using "notepad" and was successful. Also, I read the outline for the 'Super-power Autobiography' assignment and went over the marking scheme. I think today was pretty good for a first class, though I feel like I didn't understand 50% of the lesson! I'm sure it'll get better and it's really learning about these things.
